Hair Care - Know Your Hair Type

Image taken from hairstyletoday.net
Each person’s hair is different and naturally requires a different solution. The one-product-suits-all approach does not work. Read on to find out what hair care routine you should follow for your hair:

Oily hair is greasy. A simple rinse of weak tea, lemon juice, alcohol, or vinegar can treat this problem. Also, after styling your hair, leave it alone to prevent the oil from travelling down the hair strands.

Dry hair thirsts for conditioner. Steer clear of drying agents like harsh shampoos, blow-dryers, curling irons, as well as treatments such as coloring and perming. Protect your hair from excessive exposure to sun and wind.

Combination hair can be shampooed every two to three days to combat the excess oil on the scalp. Apply conditioner particularly to the ends of your hair.

Fine hair tends to fall limp on your face and make you appear older. The best thing to do is to go in for a smart cut that will give the appearance of fuller hair. Layers, an angular style, will add volume as well as a bob cut, which adds bounce to your hair. Accompany this with a mousse or gel and turn your head upside down while you blow-dry to add volume.

Thick hair is desired by every woman. Yet, maintaining the thickness and luster

Frizzy hair is also dry so you need to be very careful to not dry it even further. After you wash your hair, pat it dry to retain some moisture instead of rubbing it vigorously. Leave in conditioners are also a useful alternative for seriously frizzy hair. Ensure that you get a trim occasionally to keep split ends away.

Damaged hair may seem temporarily beyond repair. But all you need to do is wait until the healthy hair grows in and in the meanwhile find a cut that works for you, while conditioning your hair frequently.

Hair Care - Tackling Thinning Hair

A common problem faced by women at some point or the other in their lives is thinning hair. The reasons for hair loss are many: stress, post pregnancy symptoms, hormonal problems are some of them. At times thinning of hair may even be an inherited condition.

Massage Your Scalp

A good massage stimulates the pores on your scalp and improves the blood circulation under your hair follicles, assisting in further hair growth. So, try to massage your scalp for at least 15 minutes every day.

Avoid Shampoos Containing Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

Used as a degreasing agent in many hair shampoos, sodium lauryl sulphate is mainly used to lift up the dirt and oil on your scalp. However, shampoos containing it are best avoided as it is quite potent and eventually will damage the growth of your hair. It is best to check the contents on the packaging before making your purchase.

Opt for Volumizing Products

Many volume building hair products contain paraffin which can have damaging effects and result in hair breakage. If thinning hairis a serious problem for you, it is best to choose volumizing products that give better strength and support for your hair follicles and prevent severe hair fall.

Hair Care - Keeping the Colour

So you’ve got that gorgeous hair colour you always wanted. Now, all you need to do is maintain it. Here are our top 5 ways:

1. Avoid over washing your hair: Most people have a tendency to over wash their hair. But if you must wash your hair, put a little shampoo on your fingertips and shampoo just the hairline and the roots.

2. Apply a deep conditioning treatment: When your hair is better conditioned, it will take the colour easier and help it to last longer. A deep conditioning treatment also protects your hair from the damage caused by the chemicals present in hair colour.

3. Get an oil massage: Massage your scalp with oil once a week, brush it into the hair and then wash it out in the morning. This results in more elasticity, shine and longer lasting colour.

4. Use cool water in the shower: Colorists swear that hot water fades shades, while cool keeps color in place.

5. Beware of dryer heat: Too much heat can cause hair colour to oxidize and turn brassy and dull. Blow-dry as little as you can.

Hair Care - How-to: Use Hairspray

For many hairstyles, the most difficult part of achieving the right look is keeping it in place. Hair spray is the most useful product to use. Before grabbing a can and spraying down your locks, however, it is important to understand the different types of spray and how they should be used for the most effective and beautiful results.

For Styling
When styling your hair, apply hair spray as you work your fingers into your locks, while they are still wet. Brush the spray into your hair and bring it into the desired position. An additional short burst of spray can help finish the look and hold it in place.

For Maximum Hold
For the strongest hold, style your hair and then spray thoroughly over the style, possibly holding a tricky part of the style in place while the spray sets. Allow a few seconds for the spray to dry well for the maximum hold.

For Volumizing
To create greater volume with your style, apply hair spray on the underside of your hair before styling and brush it upside down for a few seconds. This will help the hair lift off the scalp for the maximum volume. Afterwards, style your hair as desired, using additional spray for hold if necessary.

Hair Care - The Art of Conditioning

Conditioner is a product that is used post hair wash that strengthens and moisturizes the hair either temporarily or more permanently, as in the case of hair treatments. Conditioners used regularly provide a microscopic thin protective film on the surface of the hair giving it smoothness and compatibility. It is important to understand the technique of applying conditioner, so here’s how it’s done

Squeeze out a globule of conditioner on your palm and rub your hands together so that it spreads evenly across your palm Spread the conditioner along the entire length of your hair, paying particular attention to the tips and avoiding excess near the scalp area.

The use of the wrong type of conditioner for your hair type or excessive use of conditioner can weigh your hair down.

Conditioning your hair combats the damage of chemical treatments, colouring, heat styling and environmental pollution. It helps to replenish lost moisture and keeps your locks shiny and resilient.

Thick, thin, curly or straight, there are different ways of taking care of each hair type. Some hair types have a tendency to collect a lot of sebum, while others remain persistently dry. But what if your hair seems to be a mix of different hair types? In other words, you have combination hair. The good news is that with the right kind of care, you can protect combination hair from damage, and enhance its beauty. To find out how to do this, read on below:

The first step to taking care of your hair is proper washing. Never use hot water while shampooing as your hair strands are sensitive and extreme heat will damage them.

Next, be selective about the products you use on your hair. Avoid shampoos that have been created for oily hair and opt instead for shampoos designed for normal hair. Just one dollop of shampoo will suffice to wash your hair. Apply shampoo on the scalp directly and let it flow down to the roots. Never apply shampoo directly to the roots as they will deplete its natural oils that are so necessary.

Use a rinse-off conditioner, concentrating on the tips of your hair and then rinse off thoroughly with cold water to lock in the moisture.

Indulge in a deep conditioning treatment once a week and trim your hair every once in two months to get rid of brittle ends. Take care of your hair and combination hair will no longer be a nightmare.

The most obvious sign of healthy hair is thick, shiny hair. No matter what your hair type is you can follow these simple rules to ensure maximum shine on your hair.

Fine Hair
A shampoo that has wheat proteins and polymers as ingredients is ideal. They coat the hair shaft, making it appear thicker. Using spray volumizers are also great as they are light enough to deposit a mist of shine on the hair without causing it to fall flat.

Normal Hair
Use a shampoo with silk amino acids. It adds softness and repairs the hair structure. Lecithin restores hair texture. Gels and creams will add shine without weight. First, it's necessary to pour the product in your palm. Rub your hands together, and then lightly pat over head.

Thick Coarse Hair The best shine enhancers for this type of hair are old-fashioned pomades. They work not only to deliver shine, but to moisturize this type of hair.

Tips For More Shine:
* Use heat-activated shampoo
* Deep condition at least weekly
* Don't use too many styling products that can dull the hair by coating it.
